Sited along a flat ridge near the back of a rolling hillside property, the exterior mass of the home starts with a simple, low-slung gable form that gets reshaped through several recessed porches and carefully placed angular dormers, which serve as markers for significant zones in the floor plan. Floor-to-ceiling glass on the south facing elevation brings in loads of natural light and warm the core spaces of the home.

The floor plan was driven by a desire to gather as a family and to host friends, with a central open-concept living, kitchen, and dining room space functioning as the heart of the home. The house is arranged along two main axes: a long east-west corridor that connects spaces from the garage to the kids’ bedrooms, and a shorter north-south axis that cuts from the front entry to the staircase overlooking the rear yard. The wood clad rear porch works as an extension of the main living space and transition to the spacious yard.

The primary palette of white corrugated steel, contrasted by thermally modified pine siding, is accented with black windows and exterior trim elements. This simple material palette allows the home to read as a clean, unified whole from a distance, while presenting subtle textural qualities as you get closer. The sharp, angled faces of the matte black dormers pull and bounce light from the outside and serve as an aesthetic break from the textures and flow of the main house.
